Just like eBay, it bids for you the lowest amount of credits to make you win. So if an item is at 100 credits and the first bidder comes along and bids 200 credits, it stays at 100 credits until it needs to use the rest of their bid. So if no one else bids, they win it for 100 credits, but say you come along and bid 150... It will immediately bid again for the original person up to their max bid. So immediately the bid would be 155. Just enough to outbid you. Basically you just have to bid until you either, don't want to spend any more credits on an item, or your max bid is higher than everyone else's...
Last week I saw a purse I wanted for 25,000 credits. No one had bid yet so I was the first bidder and bid 140,000 credits. As the first bidder though, I was winning the bag for 25,000 until some else bid on it. Many more people bid in the week but I remained the high bidder until the last day when finally, someone came along who had more credits than I did and won the bag for 160,000. LoL
Does it make sense now?
Oh! And if you do bid say, 10,000 credits on an item, it takes them from your balance and puts them in escrow to burls for you on the item. But if the item ends for say, 8,000 credits, the remaining 2,000 that you were willing to spend (but didn't have to) immediately go back into your balance as soon as you win the auction.
