The listing, 207 Year Old Newspaper -The New-York Spectator - dated August 26, 1807 -Aaron Burr's Treason Trial! has ended.
This is the oldest paper in my collection at the moment. Here's your chance to step back in time more than two centuries by reading this museum quality authentic newspaper from 1807.
This is the entire newspaper not just clippings. It is 4 pages long on two sheets of 5 columns of tiny print. This was the typical size and style of that era.
Newspapers printed after 1799 and prior to 1860 are considered "Antebellum Papers" and were printed on naturally acid free "rag linen" paper so they held up much better than our newspapers of today. There are no illustrations but that is also typical of Antebellum papers since illustrations didn't become popular until several decades after this paper was printed.
This one is only slightly yellowed. It has been folded. It has been stored out of sunlight. It is in good condition in my opinion. The edges are a bit uneven but it IS a centuries old large document.
There are also classified ads, advertisements with prices, a lengthy article about Colonol Aaron Burr's trial against charges of High Treason Against The United States. Yes, that's the same Aaron Burr who dueled with (and killed) Alexander Hamilton. Much of the paper is dedicated to that story. That was the hot topic of the day apparently.
