Description

The listing, 207 Year Old Newspaper -The New-York Spectator - dated August 26, 1807 -Aaron Burr's Treason Trial! has ended.

This is the oldest paper in my collection at the moment. Here's your chance to step back in time more than two centuries by reading this museum quality authentic newspaper from 1807.

This is the entire newspaper not just clippings. It is 4 pages long on two sheets of 5 columns of tiny print. This was the typical size and style of that era.

Newspapers printed after 1799 and prior to 1860 are considered "Antebellum Papers" and were printed on naturally acid free "rag linen" paper so they held up much better than our newspapers of today. There are no illustrations but that is also typical of Antebellum papers since illustrations didn't become popular until several decades after this paper was printed.

This one is only slightly yellowed. It has been folded. It has been stored out of sunlight. It is in good condition in my opinion. The edges are a bit uneven but it IS a centuries old large document.

There are also classified ads, advertisements with prices, a lengthy article about Colonol Aaron Burr's trial against charges of High Treason Against The United States. Yes, that's the same Aaron Burr who dueled with (and killed) Alexander Hamilton. Much of the paper is dedicated to that story. That was the hot topic of the day apparently.

Bidding starts at zero and shipping is FREE! It will be shipped securely with tracking and insurance.

This is NOT a reprint or reproduction. This is an original newspaper, guaranteed.

Good luck bidding! And thanks for stopping by!

Where did you get this? This has to be the coolest thing I've seen on this site. I remember my AP US History teacher talking about how much she wanted to kill Burr (Hamilton was her favourite president).

Lol Hamilton was never president. He probably would have been if not for Burr and the fact that he wasn't born in the states. One of the islands close by but not the states. I think he would have made an awesome president myself. I bought a lot of papers from a very reputable dealer when I owned an antique store. I ended up keeping most of them and buying more through the years. I'll be moving in the spring and I'm thinning my collection of antiques down to a more manageable size. The smaller things are going on listia. Keep watching! I have several more to post! :)

Shoot. That's embarrassing. I meant historical figure. I'm trying to finish my APUSH IDs, so it looks like I have to give them another look over.

I am a most avid history buff myself, so just happening on your auction while looking at another has been my good fortune! This, indeed, a most interesting paper with the Burr trial being so prominent! I can hardly wait to see what other jewels you re going to be listing here on Listia! Are you selling any of your memorabilia on any other site? I would be most interested in knowing. Please send me a private message if you are! I will definitely be an avid bidder on this one! Thanks so much for listing it! FW&B

No I wish I did tho. Those stories are too new for these papers. My "newest" paper is from 1859.
