This is one of my all time favorite books. I bought it for all my best friends and have read it at least six or seven times (and I almost never re-read things I have already read). I love all the characters. I love the dynamics of the three main characters' relationship. It is a love story that covers all the different kinds of love: grandmother and grandchild, mother and daughter, man and woman. It is about abandonment and loyalty and the value in waiting for the right one. It has quirky well defined characters. I even loved the ending even though I did not want it to end. It is an easy read and a fun one. Everyone that I have ever given it to as a gift has come back and told me how much they enjoyed it.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Kaye Gibbons (born May 10, 1960) is an American novelist. Her 1987 debut, Ellen Foster, received the Sue Kaufman Prize for First Fiction from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, a Special Citation from the Ernest Hemingway Foundation, and the The Louis D. Rubin, Jr. Prize in Creative Writing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Gibbons is a member of the Fellowship of Southern Writers, and two of her books, Ellen Foster and A Virtuous Woman, were selected for Oprah's Book Club in 1998.
