CHESNOK RED From the Republic of Georgia in the former USSR. Purple stripe variety, FULL flavor with a NICE mellow aftertaste that stays for awhile. BEST BAKING garlic and great all around!!! Taste can be affected somewhat by growing conditions as in hotter OR milder. But will always be garlicky. For daring people (hehe I know some of you ARE out there :) that like to try unusual things.....this is what is used to make garlic ice cream! Now before you all feel like you want to be sick....let me explain! When this garlic is baked, it becomes sweet. If you use this for ice cream, the taste will be just like toffee or butter brickle with no garlic taste. This IS the sweetest garlic I know of.
It doesn't take on the garlic taste you would think...for ice cream.
I just took a bit out of a raw (unbaked) clove and it is a medium heat with a little smoky taste, it reminds me of a stronger version of wild leeks with more...spine to it. It does leave a very nice aftertaste that is warm and a little spicy/smoky.
3-4 cloves (I promise I won't eat them but if you don't give me your address within a week of auction being over....no promises! :P
