The listing, United Sates "Union Shield" Nickel (w/o rays) has ended.

Here up for bids is a United States Union Shield Nickel (without rays) in circulated and very worn condition. From my research it seems as if there were 2 different nickels minted, one had rays between the stars on the front of the nickel and the other one (as the one in this auction) were minted WITHOUT rays. I can NOT distinguish the date on this coin as it is too worn.
Years: 1867-1883
Metal: Copper-Nickel
Weight: 5 g
Diameter: 20.5 mm

This is all of the information I can find upon this coin. This coin has NOT been cleaned so therefore it retains its original patina. Questions & Comments

This was the First Nickel minted in the United States. All 1866 had rays. The 1867 had with and without. No others had rays. Only Proofs made in 1877 and 1878.
