Mari1, this is the lite version and it does not have a mattress in the bottom. It best to use on soft surfaces, such as carpet, or perfect for sand. I also fold a blanket and put it on that, which is perfect for me, and since it is underneath the baby is not able to pull it over his face. Thanks!
