Perhaps,it was too small,you wore it while using soaps or chemicals or you were just too rough with it. This one is over 20 years old and still looks like it did when it was new.

Keep a ring tray near all sinks and never wear your rings while washing your hands or dishes. Make sure if they do get wet that you dry thoroughly. Never wear any jewelry when putting on makeup or perfume. It can damage setting,stones and pearls. I learned from my grand-mother and I still have some of her jewelry that looks brand new!
