You hold it on the top of the can....pierce the can ...then turn like a key..while turning can with other hand. I have one fifteen years old..use it often...

the best thing about this is that you can store it or put iton a nail in kitchen for when your big can opener breaks(often) you just use this one till you get to the store for a new one.
