Back in the day, they used to nail coins above doorways and to the masts of ships for good luck. Although it ruins value, these coins are usually less circulated for that reason and have much more detail. I don't mind the homes now that I know the reason behind it... But I don't collect for profit. I

I've also heard about soldiers sewing coins into their clothing along with the uses you mentioned. Though their numismatic value may be lost, I still appreciate these coins for their history. I always wonder whose pockets they may have been in, or what they might have been used to by 150 years ago. Thanks and good luck and keep enjoying all coins!!
