OMG I have this same one and it sits by me so I can always find a sharpener when I needed it. It was my sons but I took it when he joined the military

Thank you so much regarding my sons military service! He has been in since 2001 and has been all over the world right not he is in New Mexico and I miss him so much! I have not seen him in about 5 to 6 years now for he went to Japan and the Middle East to a place when they were about to take out that crazy infidel who masterminded so many deaths! My son still cannot tell us where he was or what his job was. I just know thru his ex wife that he went there. So all I could do was pray! I sure miss him. He is our only child too so mama really misses him but when I had my stroke last month here calls me a 33 year old man my son and he is sobbing and would not listen to his dad that I was ok not going to die. He was so afraid and he called me the second day again just terrified he would lose me and I told him when we got him as a small child that I would always be on his side and whenever he needs me he knows i would be there. He was so afraid he ended up not being able to work even a couple day his nerves so bad, it broke my heart, but until I came home then he was ok. Bless him I told him when I became his mom due to hubbys ex wife abusing him that I would never let anyone ever harm him again! and to this day he still knows that I will always be his mom! He never considered me his step mom and his military papers have me listed instead of her. They were putting her name on it due to the birth cert, but he stopped and said NO IF MY MOM HERE IS NOT THE ONE LISTED THEN YOU CAN FORGET IT I WILL STAY HOME WITH MY MOM! I had tears that day! sorry caps were him yelling at the guy LoL! Oh and my little pencil slot works very nicely so something is blocking the handle and it is probably a small piece of lead or wood one.

Wow....5-6 years! Sheesh! My son is 18 years old and to think that he would be gone for so long....I would probably go off the deep end. Ugh!...I can't imagine. For a man to call someone else his mom says a lot. You must be a remarkable woman and I admire that you took him in to call him your own. I pray for his safety and hope he comes home soon. I pray for you.....for peace of mind and your well-being. Keep safe and be well :)

Does it spin?

No, it moves just a little bit. I didn't want to force the handle ....I'm too nervous that it may come off.

Really don't know exactly. We always get stuff from yard sales and little antique shops.

I had one like this that spun, but you have to be careful how you do it. Very delicate. Probably a little rusty inside. It can't be helped. A little WD does wonders tho.

Yes....it seems to be delicate, that's why I didn't force it. Never thought to use WD-40. Good thinking! ;)

on mine, it wouldn't always rotate the wheels well, but after the WD, it did all right. you have to let go of the handle and let it spring back on it's own to spin the wheels, least on the one I had that was the case. At any rate, it is old and delicate, rough handling won't do it any good.

Everything vintage needs a little TLC. At least it's made so that some TLC can take care of it, most things these days are just throwaway items.

So true! Things were made really well years ago. At least it had some substance and weight to it. Everything today is made of plastic and are very flimsy. Shame :(

By the way, this might clean up to a nice pewter tone. Might even be chromed underneath the crusties.

Yes, even things made in Hong Kong were so much better then. I have many vintage items myself, but I don't put them on here. I have things from the 30's on up, mostly 50's and 60's items. Up until about 1980, most things could be repaired. Now they make things to be thrown away and buy another. However, I often repair what's not supposed to be repaired. That's the McGyver way.

Totally understandable...lol! If you can fix it, then go for it! Been there, done that...
It's all about the dollar nowadays. Even cheaply made items goes for top dollar so when it breaks, the average person would just go buy another one. Sad in a way, but its true.

I wanted to thank you from the other day. I have not felt well in this -18 F and we already had like 20 inches left of snow from the last storm. It is snowing now again and has been since last night. The 24 inches we had shoveled well now the snow it up to the the top layer of the old one. It was still really deep yesterday for I had to go out and I don't walk very well. I came back in and said not again! LoL! Snow this year and temps we up north here are just getting plummeted! I live right next to Lake Erie on the north east side. And the lake is pretty solid and so they are breaking records in all categories this year! The whole country has been hit hard. My disabilities cause so much pain I am on three different narcotics and the pain in this weather is still sooooo bad! I am keeping an eye out on this sharpener. Mine worked so well and the only one I had to use on pencils well the darn thing broke or something for it ate the pencils wood and a large one became half the size LoL!!! Any how I wish you much luck on the auction! Have a warm weekend! Thanks again for prayers honey. It does kill me not seeing him but I understand since I was once military myself.

I know....this weather is horrible!! Just when its about to clear up, another storm comes in. They weren't kidding when they said 6 more weeks of winter :( Ugh! The best thing to do is stay indoors! and the frigid temps makes it worse for anyone who has disabilities. Same goes for my elderly mom. I do her errands so she doesn't have to go out. The cold air just takes her breath away. If there's a doctor's appt., i just cancel it till it warms up a bit. She does a lot of phone orders if she needs anything....not sure if you have that option by you, but it helps! If you don't have to go out, by all means, please stay inside until this blows over. Hope you feel better soon. It's great seeing you again =)
