The listing, Lot of mixed vintage items has ended.

This is a mixed lot of stuff.
1~ Is a 1965 Metal airplane with "snoopy" the plastic propellers are gone.
2~is 2 brass horns, these used to have a red cord to hang them, tied on both ends of the horn, but they were pretty dirty looking from age or what not so i cut them off. no name or markings on these.
3~is a old brass protractor (i think that is what it is called) everything moves on it
4~on old xmas plate-It says "Christmas, Michigan" on it. no markings on the back so i do not know of it's age or who made it. Looks like gold edging on the plate. Is a little wore off but it is cute...
5~Old Velvet tobacco can. in pretty good shape a few dents and hinged top works but alittle on the unstable side...
6~This little toy clown pan , ok this one has me stumped can anyone help out to what this is??? There is a little rust on end of handle.
7~green saucer/plate and some corks
8~2 mini salt and pepper shakers-copper? not sure there is made in the usa on the bottom and that is it.
9~2 ceramic ornaments-no markings, in great shape no chips or cracks
10~ a bourbon bottle, some of the label is coming off, but it must of been like a sample I'm guessing. little brass horse n rider on top. the bottle is only like 4" tall, it is cute for the collector!!
ok so that is all, If i have missed anything just ask please.

#3 is a compass, not a protractor and #6 is a noise maker missing the little ball on each side that would hit the pan as you waved it back and forth. lol I seem to be aging myself.

doesnt a compass have north south and east west thing on it. this is for drafting or drawing. Thanks for the help! i thought something was supposed to be on the handle of the clown pan but could not remember!!

A protractor is for measuring angles, not making circles. F & W

Ok so i did my homework and it turns out that #3 is a protractor compass. Part of a kit i am assuming. It is a drawing and drafting tool, which has a metal (brass) point on it and the other point hold a pencil, hence for drawing!
The other type of compass is a divider compass, it is a caliper for measuring. It has two metal tips which you measure the distance between.
So all of you are right...it is a protractor compass!!!Thanks for everyones help, great to have all of you help out!

There are different kinds of compasses. #3 is definitely a compass for drawing circles. c:

It's a protractor ... I have the exact same one from my Great-Grandma who was a Teacher :)

If you look it up in Wikepedia it gives the following information on your brass dividers, (my father taught us to use them at a young age and we simply called them dividers): "Oddleg calipers, Hermaphrodite calipers, or Oddleg jennys, as pictured on the left, are generally used to scribe a line a set distance from the edge of a workpiece. The bent leg is used to run along the workpiece edge while the scriber makes its mark at a predetermined distance, this ensures a line parallel to the edge.

In the diagram at left, the uppermost caliper has a slight shoulder in the bent leg allowing it to sit on the edge more securely, the lower caliper lacks this feature but has a renewable scriber that can be adjusted for wear, as well as being replaced when excessively worn."

Divider caliper[edit]

The dividers we used were straight and even in length. Wikepedia describes them as: "Main article: Compass (drafting)
A pair of dividers
In the metalworking field, a divider caliper, popularly called a compass, is used in the process of marking out locations. The points are sharpened so that they act as scribers, one leg can then be placed in the dimple created by a center or ***** punch and the other leg pivoted so that it scribes a line on the workpiece's surface, thus forming an arc or circle.

A divider caliper is also used to measure a distance between two points on a map. The two caliper's ends are brought to the two points whose distance is being measured. The caliper's opening is then either measured on a separate ruler and then converted to the actual distance, or it is measured directly on a scale drawn on the map. On a nautical chart the distance is often measured on the latitude scale appearing on the sides of the map: one minute of arc of latitude is approximately one nautical mile or 1852 metres.

Dividers are also used in the medical profession. An ECG (also EKG) caliper transfers distance on an electrocardiogram; in conjunction with the appropriate scale, the heart rate can be determined. A pocket caliper versions was invented by cardiologist Robert A. Mackin"

Please forgive me using up so much space on this, but wanted you and everyone to know this is a very special tool. A lot of times brass instruments were used on ships for plotting courses. Other types of metal stopped compasses from functioning and could cause the ship to be way off course. No GPS in the old days. My family even used dividers to determined where and what time a hurricane would touch land.
