Description

The listing, (4) VINTAGE Real Photo POSTCARDS Super TRANSATLANTIC in PORT Genoa ITALY has ended.

Up for auction is a lot of four real photo postcards of Genoa, Italy. 1950 is printed on the back, but I don't believe that was the year printed. The cars in the pictures look like 1930s vintage, so not really sure of the dating on these.

These were in a collection of postcards brought back from Italy by a US serviceman who I think was there in the late 1940s. He has since passed away, so I can't check on the exact age of the cards.

In any case, these are nice cards in good condition! They have curled slightly as old photos will do, but they will flatten out nicely.

Cards are titled: Genova – Super Transatlantic in Porto, Genova – Stazione Marittima e Porto, Genova – Lido D'Albaro, and a montage of 5 views simply titled Genova.

If you collect Italian postcards, ships or just real photo cards in general, these are nice ones! I have been looking for these particular views for some time and haven't found these exact ones so maybe it is not a common shot.

Cards will be shipped in a first class reinforced envelope which carries no tracking, so please make sure you are agreeable to that method of shipping, and ask any questions before you bid. Smoke-free home.

Do the cards have cigarette odors? (I have to ask - nothing against smokers, paper collectibles just absorb smoke and don't let go.)

Last line says smoke-free home! I know what you mean -- we are allergic to smoke and I usually have to ask also, so I put that in all my auctions. Probably should have make it stand out more, because it is easy to miss. :)

I asked one person here on Listia that question, and she said I was rude and blocked me from her auctions! LOL! I think bidders have a right to ask necessary questions. Thanks for stopping by!

I'm so sorry, I usually pay better attention! Thanks so much for inc this info - so few do. Cigarette smoke turns into a terrible, strong, bitter smell over time, it really spoils the enjoyment of the collectible. Thanks also for sharing your experience. We were shocked by a seller who said if we were so sensitive to smells we shouldn't buy vintage items! She went on to suggest putting cards in a bag with Febreeze sprayed on a paper towel! Goodness me... :) Meg

Usually Febreeze just adds some smell to the already offensive odor! I have had some limited success with those little packets that they package in with new leather shoes and purses!

And some people swear by crumbled up newspaper sealed in with the items for a month or so. I have also tried that, and it didn't seem to do much. I try to smell everything when I go to a sale, if I am purchasing it to use, or to pass on to someone else. I probably get some strange looks when doing it too! :)

Yes, exactly about Febreeze, not to mention doing untold damage to a delicate piece of decades or century-old paper! Ha! Newspaper has never worked for me either. I can just see you sniffing things at an estate sale...haaa I've never had the guts, but now you've inspired me. Ha! Thanks again, it's really nice to meet you! :) Meg
