The listing, 206 year old newspaper - The Universal Gazette - Washington DC - dated September 21, 1809! has ended.
Here's your chance to step back in time more than two centuries to post revolutionary Washington City society pages (now known as DC) by reading this museum quality authentic newspaper from 1809.
This is the entire newspaper not just clippings. It is 4 pages long on one connected sheet of 5 columns of tiny print. It is by 12 1/2" by 19" while folded to the front page. This was the typical size and style of that era. It's unusual to find one connected sheet. They are usually 2 stacked pages.
Newspapers printed after 1799 and prior to 1860 are considered "Antebellum Papers" and were printed on naturally acid free "rag linen" paper so they held up much better than our newspapers of today. There are no illustrations but that is also typical of Antebellum papers since illustrations didn't become popular until several decades after this paper was printed.
This one is only slightly yellowed. It has been folded and will be shipped that way. It has been stored out of sunlight. It is in good condition in my opinion. The edges are a bit uneven but it IS a centuries old large document. The top looks like a miss cut because the signature is 100% below the edge. I don't think anyone has trimmed it, I think it was a printing error. There are a few wrinkles but they will disappear when framed or pressed as will the folds. I'll let the new owner do that. This paper has a name at the top in beautiful flowing script (we don't see penmanship like that anymore!)
There are also classified ads, advertisements with prices, articles, and lots about politics and all the comings and goings of Washington society.
Bidding starts at zero and shipping is FREE! It will be shipped securely with tracking and insurance.
This is NOT a reprint or reproduction. This is an original newspaper, guaranteed.
Good luck bidding! And thanks for stopping by!
