im sorry, i dont know much about this stuff. all i know is its a Microsoft wireless five programmable mouse. it doesnt say optical/laser anywhere on it. so i really dont know. sorry

ok i opened it up, and as it says on the pic of the box here, it is not optical/laser. it has the ball /wheel

On the box, where ir says 'faster wheel scrolling' , that pertains to the tiny little button on the top, middle of the mouse. My optical mouse has that, too... If it is an optical mouse there will be a 'hole' on the bottom of the mouse that looks to have a small light in it. If it is the ball type mouse, it will have a ball on the bottom that you can roll around with your finger... Thanx so much for checking this out for me...My mouse went 'south' and I am searching... :) D
