it has been factory sharpened , but as with most knives a better edge could be gotten from hand sharpening.

By the way, I did see one just like this that said Scotland on it on another venue...I prefer the Irish, myself, nothing against the Scots! :)

Yes, they make them with either Irish or Scottish motifs. I've read all the comments, that's why I commented in the first place...sometimes there's more information in the comment section than in the description, per se. All good.
