Description

The listing, Organic Stevia rebaudiana seeds has ended.

The plant Stevia rebaudiana has been used for more than 1,500 years by the Guaraní peoples of South America, who called it ka'a he'ê ("sweet herb"). The leaves have been traditionally used for hundreds of years in both Brazil and Paraguay to sweeten local teas and medicines, and as a "sweet treat".

Sweeteners such as cyclamate and saccharin are suspected of being carcinogens. Those artificial sweeteners are just bad for our bodies. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, our body/lungs just need moderate amount of sugar to keep them moist. But in today's world, all processed foods seem to hide some amount of sugar and added sugar in our daily consumption just make things worse. What better way than to consume natural sweetener fr your garden. Steviol, the basic building block of stevia's sweet glycosides in S. rebaudiana has zero calories. The active compounds of stevia are steviol glycosides (mainly stevioside and rebaudioside), which have up to 150 times the sweetness of sugar, are heat-stable, pH-stable, and not fermentable. These steviosides have a negligible effect on blood glucose, which makes stevia attractive to people on carbohydrate-controlled diets or those with diabetes. S. rebaudiana leaves can be dried up or use fresh in your beverage or cooking.

I am sorry that I do not have a better picture to show. You can prune it or trim the stalks to give it a bushier look just like basil plant. This plant is an annual but can be propagated easily by cuttings. It is harder to grow fr seeds than cuttings but if you are game, bid on. I will send you a bunch of seeds in a small plastic bag (1.5X1.5 in). I do not know how many seeds are in there. Just a bunch. You just need one seed to germinate to give you a plant so I think the probability is good.

The. I'm 70 and can't do real gardening but want to grow somethings I feel would help me. In case I don't win, do you have more? I'm recuperating..or trying..from pneumonia and I'm kinda sapped of energy. I miss auctions when I nod out in my chair.
