Description

The listing, Lunaria annua - the "Silver money" plant - 25 plus seeds has ended.

Lunaria annua, called silver money, honesty or annual honesty in English, is a species of flowering plant native to the Balkans and south west Asia, and naturalized throughout the temperate world.

It is an annual or biennial growing to 35 inches tall by 12 inches broad, with large, coarse, pointed oval leaves with marked serrations. In spring and summer it bears terminal racemes of violet flowers, followed by showy, light brown, translucent, disc-shaped seedpods (silicles) the skin of which falls off to release the seeds, revealing a central membrane which is white with a silvery sheen, 1–3 inches in diameter; they persist on the plant through winter. These pods are much used in floral arrangements.

YOU WILL GET 25 seeds - plenty to make your garden beautiful and diverse, plus you'll have PLENTY of your own seeds once you grow them for one season.

I think these will grow just fine where you are. The flowers are pretty small, actually..... they're not really too good for arrangements, and you need them to go to seed to make the pretty pods you see. Also, the plant is a biennial..... it lives for two years here, so I'm not sure how it will live in warm climates. I'm sure it will thrive, though. You can grow it in partial sun - I have mine growing in a yard with large bushes and a tall pine tree around..... they're very hardy.

Stunning! I live in SW Florida, it's zoned 9b/10. It's on the border of temperate/tropical...weird zone to be in, however, lots of SW Asian plants, esp. Indonesian plants, grown in my area - do you think this plant will thrive in my area? Also, does plant require full sun or shade, and do you know the approx. size of the flowers? Fanned & watching. Awesome auction!

Thank you for the information! I was more interested in the seed pods themselves for arrangements, they're stunning. I always let my plants go to seed, regardless, since I collect the seeds. However, if I win this auction, I'm thinking I'm going to be inspired to use the seed pods to make some form of functional art - like use the pods in a piece of functional artwork.
