Description

The listing, Succulent Clippings Slipper Plant has ended.

Slipper Plant. Also called: Lady Slipper, Slipper Flower, Lady's Slipper, and Gallito.
My Slipper Plant needs a good trim up. This auction is for a minimum of 6 (4" approximately) clippings of Slipper Plant- including directions for propagation. Slipper Plant is hardy outside in zones 8-10. However, my friend in VA brings it indoors fall and winter by a sunny window and it does just fine (though with less water).

An evergreen succulent about 6 feet tall with a 6 foot spread. It has mostly leafless, light green stems, up to about ½ inch in diameter, that usually stand straight up, or sometimes are arched. Mine have always been quite arched, between trimmings.

Hummingbirds are attracted to it's flowers. Easy to grow by stem cutting.

Some people are sensitive to Euphorbia sap, use gloves when handling. Very sticky.

Height: About 6 feet tall with a 6 foot spread.
Flowers: Pink to red terminal blooms. Resembling a Lady's Slipper. About 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches long.
They have very Small leaves best seen in photo 4, very small and delicate looking, and mostly appear right before they begin to bloom.
Grows great in a container, sensitive to frost (I cover when threat of frost or freeze). Currently not blooming, usually a late bloomer in October and early March through May.
Freshly cut and mailed first thing in the morning.

Photo 1- Shows Slipper Plant in bloom and how straight they can grow with regular trimming
Photo 2- Shows how curved and twisty they can become without trimming often
Photo 3- They have a great green color
Photo 4- Such small leaves
Photo 5- Grows best in dappled shade with extreme heat. More sun in zones not currently as hot as AZ.

In Northern AZ I would recommend in a container set outside when threat of frost or freeze is over, brought inside for fall and winter. I live in the valley and mine has always been outside on the covered patio however, this winter our lowest temp was 30 degrees. Good luck if bidding.

pburnett, I was just thinking that I know they grow these at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum in Superior, AZ- I just wanted to add that as I know their temperatures are quite cooler in winter than Glendale.

It would be hard for me to tell if I have a green garden snake sitting around in my plant unless I get real close, isn't it? : )

Oh, I never thought of that, we live in the centre of the city and I haven't seen a snake in years. Though when we lived in Oklahoma, it was not uncommon to find a snake in a pot or potted plant, yuck.

Shirley, I very well may have more cuttings, however, I have only been offering succulents because they can tolerate the heat in the mailing process right now. Plus at this time those are what looks good in the yard. Our seasons are backward from yours most of our plants limp by in the summer and do terrific come winter and spring. I will try to round some more succulents from my yard, friends, and where I volunteer.
