Description

The listing, 10 Birdhouse Gourd SEEDS Awesome for Crafts! GIN bid gets 20 Seeds has ended.

Up for auction are 10 SEEDS that are referred to as “birdhouse gourds,” Lagenaria siceraria seed. GIN bids get 20 seeds.
You are NOT bidding on the gourds themselves shown in the pictures, The pictures just show things you can do with the seeds when your gourds are matured from the seeds.
The matured gourds from your seeds will have large bulb-like bases and long bottle-like necks. Hollow on the inside, the gourds make a perfect perching spot for small birds like swallows and chickadees. Planting birdhouse gourds in your backyard garden will likely give you more birdhouses than you need.
Grow your birdhouse gourds in an area of full sun. But if the temperatures get extraordinarily hot, provide the plants with a bit of shade during the hottest hours of the afternoon. To prevent mold and decay, use soil with adequate draining. Plants do well in clay, loam or sand soil with any pH. Birdhouse gourds do grow on vines, so they will need plenty of room to sprawl; whether they sprawl across the ground or up a trellis is your decision.
Water your gourds frequently. Although they are extremely tolerant of dry conditions, they prefer an adequate supply of water. A fertilizer treatment helps control the growth of vines. Choose a fertilizer product with a lower ratio of nitrogen to phosphorus and potassium, as nitrogen tends to inhibit fruit development. If weeds develop around the plants, scatter mulch across the ground. If you remove the weeds, use caution to avoid disturbing the gourd plants' shallow roots.

Your seeds will be shipped regular USA mail envelope, inside a ziplock baggie. Free USA shipping.

These seeds have 85% germination and were packaged 09/2014.
