The listing, W.W 2 SHELL CASINGS PENNIES 1944 &1943 STEEL CENT !!BEAUTIFUL PENNIES!! has ended.
THESE ARE BEAUTIFUL PENNIES,,, I GOT OUT A FEW OF MY BEST SHELL AND STEEL PENNIES FOR THIS AUCTION !!! HERE IS SOME INFO...
In 1943 the U.S. Mint was asked to conserve, if not eliminate, the use of bronze (copper alloy) during the war.
so in 1943 the mint used a zinc-coated steel alloy for pennies.
These newly minted steel cents looked much like dimes at a glance, and they were magnetic. That meant they would not work in penny vending machines; there were many types of one-cent vending machines at that time plus in circulation they developed rust, spotting, whitish oxide of zinc, and often turned black.
So the mints requested that spent military shell casings, mostly naval ordnance, be recycled and used for coinage, since the shell casings were also made of a brass alloy like the cent so In 1944 and 1945, the mints produced shell-case cents which, at a glance, looked just like the pre-war bronze cents.
so here are 3 of these W.W 2 pennies one 1943-D steel cent & two 1944-P Shell-case pennies ,,, all 3 pennies are in great shape & They will come in the 2x2 coin flip you see ,,, please check out my other auctions !! thank you !!
