Very nice 1949 Cyprus Half Piastre coin issued when Cyprus was a colony of Great Britain. Cyprus was placed under British administration on 4 June 1878 (formally annexed by Britain on 5 November 1914, in response to the Ottoman government's decision to join World War I on the side of the Central Powers) until it was granted independence in 1960, becoming a member of the Commonwealth in 1961. This a beautiful example of a bronze coin that is no longer legal tender with an unusual scalloped design and a profile of King George VI. A great addition to any collection, gift or investment!
