Description

The listing, VIGNA CARACALLA CORKSCREW/SNAIL VINE 5 SEEDS LAST ONES has ended.

Beautifully exotic, with a fragrance like jasmine, this plant was originally discovered in venezuela.corkscrew-shaped buds open to flowers in lovely shades of violet, pink, yellow and cream.this sun-loving plant can be trained to grow on an arbor, trellis, railing or fence, on in a container where the flower clusters will cascade gracefully.grow where the color and scent can be easily enjoyed.grows to a height of 15-20' in the south and 4-6' in the north.

i bought these seeds for myself and have had great luck germinating them. i nicked the seed then soaked it for 24 hours. i put them on a wet paper towel, in a plastic baggie. they have been under fluorescent lights and are germinating.

this is an annual in colder zones.

I live in KY. How can I expect them to grow here. Weather is erratic here.

I truly can t answer that. They are probably an annual there though. I'm not sure which zone you're in.
Look it up :)

t seems that itsy-bitsy red ants (not "big" ants) are necessary to naturally pollinate this vine. A few other people claim that carpenter bees, flies, little brown butterflies or little "fly-bees" pollinated their vines with great success. Well, I had none of those on my vine that I could tell. Guess I was lucky to have it produce 1 pod!

By using either your finger tip, a small paint brush or probably even a Q-tip, you can pollinate it and increase your odds of getting more pods. You want to "dust" pollen from one flower to another flower.

(Excerpt from an article on Gardenweb)

This is my first year growing them so I'm still learning. My seedlings have been doing very well.
This plant will be an annual in your area. I plan on putting mine in a pot and bringing it in for the winter.
Hope this helps :)

The corkscrew vine is different from the snail vine, which has no scent, is only purple, and rarely has seed pods.

Didn't know that, thanks.
