It certainly is waterproof. But I only wore it one time with an umbrella. As for you, I cannot say for certain that it would provide a complete bubble effect. And I know nothing about Lupus. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Hubby had one when he worked construction in a rainy area. Works very well. Alas, med is too small for either of us.
