Questions & Comments
its a toshiba, I was hoping the factory restore would still work.. im hoping lol I know when I upgraded my hdd in my desktop it worked that way lol
Not to sure why it died... thinking it might be along the lines of what you pointed out,, she would put it in her lap all the time, I bought her a mobile laptop desk eventually, but think the damage had already been done.. shortly after getting the desk the hdd started giving her fitts
Oh, and Tiggman - do you know why your wife's hard drive died? The biggest issue with laptops is over heating - dust, hair, etc.. getting into the vents - also people put them down on things like sofa cushions, carpet, pants (lol), comforters and guess what happens, all the intake air vents get covered - so the laptop will overheat ;)
Just an FYI for Tig, and everyone else out there - always keep your laptop on a hard surface, and if you can get a laptop cooling pad that blows air into (a lot of them actually suck the air away from the vents - which leaves you with the same issue - overheating) the vents - you'll have longer life of your laptop and less video, processor, and hard drive overheat issues ;)
I need both of these drives - both mine and my husband's laptops don't have the capacity needed for us - I have a 100 gig he has an 80 gig - so.... if I win both of these I'll probably be throwing a couple sata 2.5 drives on myself ;)
It should work - as long as you have the recovery cd/dvd(s) If you don't - you can contact Toshiba and get a set - I believe the're around 25-30 dollars. (My tablet/laptop is a toshiba - and so is my husband's laptop ;) ) - Some manufacturers put the 'restore' on a hidden partition on the hard drive - so if the drive went belly up - you're S.O.L. unless you purchase a set or created a set when you got the computer.
Yeah, 99% of the time on Laptop issues its an overheat issue (20 years of IT experience in the field ;) ) So I'm glad she has the desk now - you know how to do a system restore (format/reload) once you get a RPL drive, right?
Alright - thanks for checking for me - actually I may swoop in on this one anyways ... .but we'll see ;) I don't think either of our portables would support a 1TB - mine's newer than his and I think mine will only support 500gb lol.. been a few months since I've checked the specs on it ;)
