Maxtor External Hard Drive / USB
I'm not sure how this device works. It shows up in the devices and has updated the driver for it. I ran the trouble shoot on it and it says it found no problems and device is working properly. (??)TIPS/Comments are welcome.

I don't know how many GB. I plug it into USB : it lights up, beeps, shows itself in DEVICES, troublshooting no problems, and it has updated driver, but it appears to need an adapter (?) I don't know much about this. I thought it should work like an USB thumb drive but it doesn't. Something could be wrong with this I just don't know.I am unaware of whether or not it uses a power adapter.(It does not have one) but it looks like it uses one <?> I am sorry that I can not answer the way that would be satisfactory. Any suggestions.?

great. I just worry someone may think badly of me but I believe that someone might fix it..I am not an expert. It does so much but not enough and it's like ?? What can be wrong...So..there you go. I just want people to know I am saying this has problems that I can't fix..SO I CONSIDER IT NON-WORKING..Did you notice that the format started (using software) I have and actually identified itself as what you said. It was doing good I wiggled the mouse I thought my computer froze up..then it said FORMAT INTERRUPTED..I said a few and quit trying. I now have another device(I can't check it out..I know it is a neat little device. RadioShack Dazzle. and it reads cards...I don't have this type of card for it to read..so here I have another one I want to list but can not assure it is working :)

You don't sound so dumb to me!! Everyone starts out here on the bottom and needs some learnin'. When I first started I put up a Harlem Globetrotters signed team basketball with a starting bid of 0 credits. Then I saw a baseball card for 499 credits and freeked out. Talk about learning fast!!!!

Sounds like you've got yourself a so-called "60" gigabyte external drive. 57,232mb is closer to 55GB, but it's been industry standard to call 1,000 1gb for many years now, even though 1gb REALLY = 1,024mb.

Anyway, you should be able to open the drive manager and format it. I'd walk you through it, but it's been years. First you format it as a basic drive, then you can format a specific file system like NTFS or FAT32.

Yes sir that sounds correct and I work on computers just a wee-bit (install hard drives, format, software installation, etc...but this little devil will not give me the option of doing that...I am just bumfuzzled (LOL) I at first thought it may be me and my lack of knowledge but I dk. I did the on-line test and it still says "working properly"...really makes me feel like a ( )

I have done some searching and I understand that if the Y usb does not supply enough power to the maxtor an adapter can be used. (Also these little things can really use the power)There is a place for an adapter on the back of this maxtor.( I DO NOT HAVE AN ADAPTER) I do know computer / Device Manager shows it is connected)but I am not having any success going any farther with this device. I DO HOPE IT IS OKAY. BID at your own risk is all I can comment. SORRY

If anyone wants this as is and in this condition...go for it. Myself I am tired of trying to get it to work. Everything that I have tried has failed. It will not format .. it automatically stops after 3%..I am upset about this and if you want to bid for this.It is no promise to work situation.Thanks again.

If anyone thinks that they can fix this they are more than welcome to bid on this.I do not want a BAD NAME for sending ineffective items. I know how to format and if you ask me this little 60 gig should work same as a thumb drive. Isn't this correct. Well it doesn't. I am so sorry about this. I have 4 computers and extra drives and really didn't need this...but I would not care to let it go if you want it "AS IS" condition. I work on computers and install hard drives, memory and software installations and I sell them for extra money. I did a low level format today and it actually showed as 60 gigabyte as to not showing this before. It just stops formatting after a few clusters...HELP

the drive is bad, if you put your ear to it, you will hear a faint clicking. that is the tracking needle jumping around on the disc. hope this helps you out....:)

I do not hear that but I can hear and feel smooth rotation inside. It wants to format when I try but it says format was interrupted or it just stopped. Thanks and someone somewhere I know will get it to working. The problem could be this dumb blonde here (?)

I think you've done and tried and said everything you can to be fair and honest with everyone about this item. So anyone who bids only have themselves to blame if they are not satisfied and no refunds should be allowed. I've had over 4000 auctions and I know not everyone would be this honest with their buyers. Also the reason you couldn't delete the auction was because once someone bids you can't delete it. If you had tried before someone bid you could have deleted it.
