No, I was building my own pc's for sale, and never sold prebuilt ones. It was the prebuilt stuff I was competing with. In fact, if I'm correct, I was doing that before Dell became a big company. Before they were sold in Best Buy, I think they made their name by building their own branded PC's that they shipped out in a black splotched white box, designed to look like the side of a black & white cow. I was aware of this because the advertised in "Computer Shopper", a magazine often found UNDER the magazine rack, originally printed on newspaper stock, was always at LEAST 1 inch thick, and who's contents were 1% computer 'newsish' stories I could never finish when I tried, and 99% ads for zillions of wholesale products and wholesalers. In fact, there was no way I could have started my business without that magazine.
Then they eventually got big enough to start their own chain (which if I remember correctly was Best Buy) and managed to start selling computers w/monitor & keyboardI for $500. Which was less than what people like me could buy the parts for, and didn't even include labor or a profit for us!
Though the only two things I'd swear to was the cow colored boxes, that company becoming a brick and mortar store, and driving independent computer stores out of business. The only thing I remember not supporting that it was Dell, is a vague recollection that the company went out of business. Though I remember them (whoever they were) having a great reputation for support.
