The listing, Dutch Copper Coal Scuttle/Hod with Delft Flower handle has ended.

This is a small scuttle/hod, hand made, copper and brass with Delft porcelain handle. Hand crafted. Not certain of age, believe late 1800s?? Original, not reproduction. Lots of character, dings, dents and patina and asymmetry. Few chips in porcelain handle as seen in photos. Pretty small piece. Measures 6 3/4" base to top of handle, about 5 3/4" front of helmet and 4 3/4" back handle.

Also of interest, most of these have the lions-head emblem in the brass on side. I have also seen a few cherubs. This kind of looks like an evil clown??? Tried to research and find out more.

Thanks. I was not so sure of date. I have had this for many years. Picked up in Charleston, SC a number of years ago when I was collecting all sorts of metalware. Had about 6 of these in various sizes. This was a small one, so kept it. Just sitting on my dresser as a catch-all for change and buttons and such.. Love the old metalware. Had many kettles and various other lanterns, but no room for them now. Still like to look. Appreciate the info about the grinning devil!

it is vintage. I meant about 1920 around there. There is lots of them on e-bay I only seen one with grinning devil.

I have had many of these, mostly larger ones. Most had lion's head. A few with cherubs. Thought this was interesting. I did see similar on eBay awhile back. Was black looking and rough. Thanks again for info.

I found the face unusual as I have had several others, most with lion's head too. Was told this was "grinning devil."
