The listing, FILIGREE PENDANT AND NECKLACE has ended.
In the 1800's women would wear these with a piece of perfumed cloth inside the pendant purse. Perfume was expensive, so they had to use it sparingly. Later pieces (of which this one is) found other uses only restricted by the owner's imagination and size of the pendant. This piece in particular is deeper than many I have seen. The dimensions are: 2" deep with a 1" x 1/2" wide mouth, extending to 1 5/8" before the taper. The necklace (which is 12 1/2") is Not Original with the pendant and consists of a link arrangement that gives the necklace a solid "true square" configuration. (I had an antiques specialist examine the pieces: He stated that the chain is older/antique and of High Quality; most likely sterling. And everything sterling is Not stamped.) The necklace clasp is not the original nor are the "connectors" . Depending on the type of lighting, the coloration ranges from dark to light silver-grey, silvery; and the soft "yellow brass" color still baffles me unless the metal itself is a brass (as there are numerous brasses). There are no markings. Nature of metal: Unknown. Date: Unknown. Ageing may be a reason for some of the "seam splitting", as can be observed with the interior view #7. Oh yeah! and the clasp does produce a tight lock :) An interesting piece; but as stated by the "antiques specialist", the chain is actually the part that he was impressed with. Anyhoo..., i hope that this will be something fun for Y'all to peruse and bid on :)
