I am new to making jewelry. I have real faceted and or calibrated gem stones. ( bought from a jewelry store-- emerald , garnet , white sapphire to name a few ) How do I go about making jewelry from theses? Do I need castings or semi mounts to hold them on say earrings or what ? If you have any ideas I would love to hear from you. THANK YOU ,

You have to buy mounts for them. I've never done that so I don't know anything about it, but try googling instructions for mounting gemstones. I'm sure you can find a lot of information about it. After you mount them you'll need to add a bail of some sort if you want to use them on necklaces. I would not use valuable gemstones on bracelets, mounted as dangles. I think they'd be too easy to break or lose.

If they are valuable stones be sure your mounts are sturdy!

What I have in my stash is a lot of semi-precious stones that are beads, i.e. they have holes drilled in them. You can get a lot of gorgeous real stone and gemstone beads, but they get expensive!

When you get to the point where you want to make jewelry, I have a lot of supplies you might need ... my stuff is for stringing beaded jewelry, so I have spacers, crimps, clasps, earring-making findings, etc.
