5 Out of 5 Stars: "Major Problems" Series Does it Again
Amazon Review By Amy R. Nix on August 2, 2012
This book is ridiculously expensive because it is a textbook; know that upfront.
This is not a book for people who are casually interested in personal study of the Vietnam War. It is a collection of essays written by historians alongside primary source material from the era compiled for use in university classrooms. Speeches, diary entries, letters, and government documents are all included here. All of the books in the "Major Problems" series of textbooks are formatted this way, and this one is exceptionally well-edited.
If you are purchasing this book for a college course, I hardly need to sell it to you because you have to buy it anyway, but you won't be disappointed in it. If you are considering this purchase for personal enjoyment, please understand that this book is not written as a narrative of the war's history. It is a collection, roughly in chronological order, of primary source material and commentary/essays written by historians divided into organized, sensibly-themed chapters.
