Description

The listing, Fixable-Toshiba Satellite A105-S2031(AS IS) has ended.

Ok here's the deal with this laptop. One morning I turn it on and the power lights, fan came on and I could hear it trying to boot up.After about 10 seconds of this it turns off and does it again for 4 time's and then shuts down.It does this every time you turn it on.I took it to Best Buy and had them look at it.They said that the mother board had gone bad,so instead of fooling around with it I just went ahead and bought a new one.I do not know for sure if the mother board is the problem for sure.I'm just going by what I was told by Best Buy.This is an ((((AS IS))))Auction. If you have the time and cash you can fix this and it will be a great computer.Or some one can use this for parts.I will ship for free in the US except AK and HI.I will include the power cord. The battery is in good shape too, still holds a good charge.Feel free to ask any questions at all. Here's just a few specs and features due to character limits you can find the rest at:

Well I kinda had a feelin that the salesman was tryin to make a sell. That's why I mentioned that I'm not sure that's what the problem is.It may be an easy fix after all.Best Buy was actually on the way to the place that I was gonna take it to and I thought I would make a quick stop to see what they thought it might be.I ended up just getting a new one.

Hey, I have this same laptop. I had the same issues. I took it to a Toshiba authorized shop and they did tell me it was the motherboard. It was changed for like 300 bucks, but did the same thing about 3 months down the road. These laptops are nice looking, but tend to break very easily. I hope this goes to someone who can fix them. :) They have great memory. I loved mine. :(

I don't think your problem is as hard to fix as you thought : ) It is still a VERY nice offering, and I for one am waiting until later to bid, I have a feeling my credits may not be enough, but I'll try!!

anyone, the motherboard has a failed video chipset...requires either a new motherboard=very expensive, a used motherboard= high risk of repeat failure, a rebuilt motherboard= best value for your buck and its been 100% tested and repaired with any failed items replaced with new ones

One bit of advise I would give is... that the picture of the Windows key off. If someone lost theirs and has the same kinda operating system, your key is now theirs. That is one way that MS blocks legit keys. Multiple uses on different computers.

If I'm not mistaken there has been 3 or 4 people give a little insight on what they think the problem might be.I don't know for sure what it is.Bestbuy said is was the motherboard.

those are ok, but not enough detail, showing how the connectors actually come apart...or locations of the screws, they use many different lengths of screws so they MUST be put back where they came out or else a longer one gets put where a shorter one was supposed to go and causes issues from broken plastics to shorting out the motherboard....these are much better and dont cost much at all considering...

its not hard, but you have to be extremely careful with the ribbon connectors as they are easiy destroyed, as well as being very careful with the laptop lcd screen, as you will have to remove the lcd, cover and all to get the motherboard out. It is not a place to go prying with sharp metal objects like screwdrivers. The case halves actually have little finger snaps that will break off if you dont remove it the right way, you cant just start prying and popping the case halves apart...or else the fingers will break and you wont have a very nice looking case when your done..if you get the directions off the web, follow them exactly and to the letter!

Can you access setup? Did you try booting from a CD? If it is a windows file you should be able to do both.
Apr 3rd, 2010 at 4:00:38 PM PDT by
Original
No I can't and no I haven't.I've looked everywhere for the cd and can't find it.

if it were a simple driver error or a file error, you would at least get a POST screen before it shut down...but the few seconds it tries to boot is not enough time...it has to initialize the video first...the POST and then load windows drivers as it boots up...it isnt making it far enough to be caused by a driver or file issue...

I repair computers for my business, I promise you this, its the video chip thats gone bad..I have sent a number of these to a place i have fix the motherboards, they reflow the solder joints and replace any chipsets that are bad, every single one I sent has been a failed video chipset, it costs 112.00 to repair and they are as good as new when done...I charge 50.00 to remove the motherboard and send it out, then reinstall it and update everything..not a bad deal really, if I had more credits this one would be mine...

Its not hard at all to remove the motherboard in this model.I ran across it the other day and bookmarked it.So whoever wins this can save at least that much more money and do it their self if they choose to.It's worth $112 to repair this computer.Like I said before this was a great one before this happened to it.Someone will be very happy. Thanks for your input it was appreciated.

I work on Computers and have ran into these Problem's same thing they said it was the mother board at bestbuy & other places .. The only thing i find wrong with these is a Simple Driver error is all it is . Anyway's boot the labtop up and hit f8 a few times you go in safe Mode if you can boot into safe mode its not the Mother Board. IF you get into the safe mode right click my computer icon on desktop click on Manage box opens click on Event Viewer click the + click each one look for error's ..

I hope this can help you out.. They say Listia is a Family home just helping out.

P.S Try with battery pack or just the power cord only .

Ok, I'm the high bidder, but I imagine not for long :) My husband really needs a laptop for work, but we can't afford one. I doubt I'll have enough credits to get this, but it's worth a shot!

This is the email that I just read that he sent me:I Called toshiba last night and told them what it was doing and they said to just run the cd and reinstall windows, they said since it just did it all of a sudden it seems like it has a virus that erased some stuff when you turned it off and is keeping it from starting up.

Yeah I don't know if you're familular with this kind of auction but just because there's a X amount of credits posted for a bid doesn't meen that thats the actual # that person has already bid.Obviously dc12321 original bid was higher than the 200 you bidded.Until thier original bid has been beat it will automaticly outbid you.
