Yes the mirror can be taken out. If the something else you put in the bottom fits you can put something there. What you see in the picture is what it looks like open and standing. This mirror is what Mary Kay beauty consultants use when they are doing a beauty consultation. You can put Mary Kay samples on the tray.

This mirror has never been used! I was a beauty consultant but very much afraid of doing "parties". So they didn't get used!
