It does the same thing as the nook. I would say it is superior because you have the ability to surf the Internet so long as an AT&T cell phone tower is nearby.

My understanding is that any e-book can be read aloud buy the Kindle. I've had it read e-books to me that I borrowed from the library, and also books that I purchased through the Kindle bookstore. It does text to speech, and if I remember correctly there are a couple different voices to choose from. But, it does sound robotic.

Because my kindle only reads aloud the books I buy from audible. Or if I have a book already I can buy the same book at a discounted price at audible.com
