Is the front part magnetic? Son if it opens will the charms fall out?

Yes, it's magnetic. However it doesn't open TOO easily, you have to put your fingernail into the little grove and pull apart. Some people glue in the charms with a gluestick so they stay put but you can still remove them. I personally leave my charms loose though, I like to change them out according to the colors I wear that day.
