Description

The listing, PAIR of CONSECUTIVE 210 year old news papers The New York Herald - dated March 23rd and 27th, 1805 has ended.

Step back in time more than TWO centuries by reading these TWO 1805 editions of The New York Herald. These are both entire newspapers, not just clippings. They are each 4 pages long on two connected sheets of 6 columns of tiny print. This was the typical style of that era.

References to Napoleon Bonaparte, Thomas Jefferson, Aaron Burr and many more!

These are consecutive editions numbered 337 and 338. It's rare to find 2 back to back editions like this and in readable condition. It's also rare to find a connected page paper, and BOTH are still connected.

Number 337 has an early illustration which is extremely rare in a paper of this age. Illustrations didn't become common for at least 4 decades after these were signally hand press printed.

These are perfect for framing!

They both have William Hopson written on them so they've been together for the entire 220 years and should stay together in my opinion. It might be fun for the new owner to research the NY area to learn more about him.

The writing is as old as the papers themselves and doesn't change the condition.

There is some tearing on the 338th edition as you can see in the photos. No missing pieces and all editorial is present. It will not be visible or worsen once framed.

The edges are not perfect but that is to be expected and both are still considered to be in very good condition for their age.

There are also classified ads, advertisements with prices, and articles.

Newspapers printed after 1799 and prior to 1860 are considered "Antebellum Papers" and were printed on naturally acid free "rag linen" paper so they held up much better than our newspapers of today.

Bidding starts at zero and shipping is FREE! They will be shipped securely with tracking and insurance. They have been folded in the past and will be shipped that way without causing a change in condition. These are NOT reprints or reproductions. These are original newspapers, guaranteed.
