Description

The listing, 1 oz SILVER coin Alaska Red Dog Mine near Kotzebue with case has ended.

This beautiful 1 oz silver proof commemorative coin is encased in plastic and has very fine detail. I purchased this in Kotzebue, Alaska, which is 33 miles north of the Arctic Circle. The coin shows the coastline of Northwest Alaska, including the Seward Peninsula, the USSR (across the Bering Strait), Kotzebue, and the tiny village of Kivalina, Alaska, the closest village to the Red Dog lead-zinc mine. The mine provides employment for many and was formed in tandem with the native corporation (NANA) which is owned by the Inupiat people of NW Alaska.

Is it solid 999 silver?

Yes, to my knowledge and belief, it is. One Troy Ounce .999 fine silver.

It should be marked, is it?

Well I'll be darned, it is marked I just never thought to look. If you look sideways into the plastic container along the edge it is marked "NWIM .999 FINE SILVER". I will try to post a photo.

Any paperwork on it?

I'm sorry, no. I bought it from Alaska Auction in 2011 and there was no paperwork with it. There were four types sold, this was by far the coolest in my opinion, with the dog riding a whale and all. The Alaska coastline is unusually accurate as well.
