Why does it have to be hooked to itunes? Can you download music cds to your computer then download them to the ipod?

It can not be the 3rd generation it is the 2nd gen the 3rd gen only comes in 16 -32 gigs people make the mistake all the time. I have been working for Apple for 15+ years ( I am VERY cheep) but it's still a very good IPod
