This is a genuine Colonial Era copper coin also known as a Duit. The Dutch East India Company once controlled much of the trade between Europe, Indo China, and the Americas. The Island of Manhattan was once purchased from its Native inhabitants with this form of currency, thus the nickname New York Penny.
