Description

The listing, Apple Gourd seeds *perfect for the gardener and the Crafter has ended.

20 cured seeds from last years harvest. Super easy to grow, just need plenty of room to roam. Perfect for trellises, decks, porches or just a spot in the yard that looks a little bare. The vines grow between 1 and 2 ft a day, if you soak the seeds overnight, it helps with germination, can be started indoors in cooler climates, but if planted outdoors after danger of frost, you should start seeing blooms by mid to late june. Continues until frost, which kills the vines but does not affect the gourd. the fully dried gourd can be painted or repurposed for endless uses.

Someone told me that the young gourds are edible. Do you know anything about that?

I've never heard of anyone eating one. They somewhat resemble a Kushaw, which is kinda between a squash and a gourd, they are green and can be baked and eaten. But my kids have knocked a few of these off the deck railing, and when they busted, there's no real "meat" like you would see in a pumpkin, just a thick white membrane, (Think orange's, between the peel and the fruit) that full of seeds. You cold try to google it i guess.

I was just checking. A few years ago, I found a tall variant that was solid inside, like a green squash, or, melon. It was shaped like yours, but, stretched 3 -4 in. taller. It may well have been immature, because, a second one of the same shape, which I allowed to dry before opening, did indeed have just a thin layer of flesh.

I may try roasting one in the event of a zombie apocalypse, but I would have to be really hungry! Lol.
