that's cool! my boyfriend used to have quite a few boas and other reptiles...he just had this new one laying around that we found after he sold off his snakes. a friend of mine has a heater similar to this one and her bearded dragon loves it! she likes to hide her crickets in there! lol
I have a few small Lizards, Have had them burned before by heat rocks but they're still pretty handy. If you hook them up to a timer and have them turn off every two hours, for about an hour, the rock itself won't get that hot. At least that's what's worked for me in the past. We also use them at the local wildlife center to keep baby mammals & birds warm. Handy little items. Will be watching. Could sure use them for the next wave of baby birds that come through our area in November. Great auction =D
Not to dump on your item Jenn, but heat rocks can be really dangerous - reptiles can't feel if they get too hot (from a power surge, faulty wiring or just prolonged contact) and get burned. Just a caveat...
okay. i think experienced pet owners who have used the heat rocks and caves will be cautious and use with care. as long as you follow the directions and use advice from professionals, your pets will be safe. thanks for your concern...
Unfortunately they can't be used with care because the hot spots / power surges that get hot enough to burn can happen while you're asleep or not at home. Anyone thinking of using them should at least look up "heat rock burns" so they are aware of the risks - it is quite common, sadly. Using the heat rock with a thermostat or dimmer can make it a bit safer to use.
i agree that people should look up heat rock burns as well...i have never had any issues with my rock heaters. i always turned mine off at night, also.
