This plant is not only beautiful....it's also fascinating! I got the seeds from a Listia member last winter. Teeny Tiny seeds. Lo and behold....you can see what happened. They grow to 6-7 feet high, as you can see. It's amazing that one tiny seed can grow into this!

.......................Description: Cleome flowers, with many opening at once, grow in airy racemes, or clusters of flowers, six to eight inches in diameter. Cleome flowers come in white, pink, or lavender. They perch atop stems that grow up to six feet high.

How to grow: Cleome grows well in average soil located in full or nearly full sun. It is very drought-tolerant, though it will look and grow better if it is watered well. Space spider flower plants one to three feet apart.

Propagation: Sow after the last frost when the ground is warm. Cleomes may also be started indoors four to six weeks earlier at a temperature of at least 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Germination time is 10 to 14 days. In the garden, it reseeds prolifically and should be thinned.

Uses: Plant cleome for its height, to back up borders, in the center of island beds, or in any spot where its dramatic quality stands out.........................

I live in sunny hot Florida too so I'm sure it will do great where I'm at as well! did u put the seeds u got in a pot inside after germinating them? or just plant it in our Florida "dirt" (lol) in the ground outside after germinating? hope I win bid :) thnx for posting all that great info. I like to know about plants before deciding if I want to take the time to try them/ or before bidding on them. u rock! have a great day!

I put several seeds in little pots, then let them get about 3-4 inches high, then I planted them. They grow really fast!

Absolutely! I know for a fact they grow as far north as Pennsylvania...and probably even further north. These are amazing! I couldn't believe how big they got...from such a tiny seed, too. They also produce thousands of seed pods, and each pod will have 10-20 seeds in it. Let me give you an example.....I went through them all and harvested every seed pod. FIVE days later, it was covered with pods again. To me...THAT'S amazing!
