How to grow cherry seeds: Perform the stratification process, which is the process of letting the seed chill for 6 to 8 weeks before planting, by placing the seeds in the refrigerator.
Place all of the cherry seeds in a metal or plastic container that's filled with an even mixture of sand and peat moss. Make sure this mixture is moist but not soggy.
Make sure air is able to circulate within the container by popping a few air holes in the lid. If using a plastic bag, leave it slightly open at the top.
Keep the temperature in the refrigerator between 33 degrees F (1 degree C) and 41 degrees F (6 degrees C) during the stratification process.
Plant the cherry seeds at the beginning of fall. Space the seeds about 6 inches (15 cm) apart and sow them 1/2-inch (1 cm) deep.
Allow them to over winter in the ground and look for new growth in the spring. When the seedling trees are a few inches high, you can transplant them to a new location if desired.
