Hollyhock Rainbow Collection
Stately, Beautiful, Edible, Great Gift
This exotic bloom has a long and fascinating history dating back 50,000 years to a Neanderthal burial site!
Considered sacred, 'Holly'hock is linked to the 'Holy' Land and The Knight's Crusaders who named the plant for its healing properties. The sacred considerations surrounding Hollyhock continued through the Dynastic Japanese Shogun's and English Tutor rule. In fact the use of this flower in non-traditional Cottage Gardens, may have been the first time Hollyhocks were ever used by non-royals or grown outside of sanctioned royal gardens by non-priest!
"The mother loved them years ago;
Beside the fence they used to grow,
And though the garden changed each year
And certain blooms would disappear
To give their places in the ground
To something new that mother found,
Some pretty bloom or rosebush rare --
The hollyhocks were always there ." Edgar A Guest
