Stacey, try taking your photos without a flash, on a white background with a bright desk lamp, and have the camera far enough away that it will be in focus (use the macro setting on your camera). Then crop it in with photo software. These look like great earrings, but with stuff like this it's better to have a sharp clear photo! If you don't have photo editing software you can download it free, I use HP Photosmart. It's a bit of a pain to learn to use, but once you do you can edit a photo in seconds.

What you need to do is hold your camera further away from the object, you are too close and it can't focus. Be sure you are using the macro setting (closeup) if you have it. Also, if you have a little desk lamp, get a daylight color bulb (Reveal and other brands) so the light is bright white (not yellow) and move it around to play with light and shadow. Particularly for a piece of jewelry with a lot of sparkle like this, you'd be amazed what that can do.

Take a BUNCH of photos so you can show the item from all sides, including any marks on the back. Download them into Photosmart. Crop, but ALSO use the "advanced" features. Manual adjust lets you adjust the brightness and contrast. The color adjustment lets you make the item more blue or more yellow, and allows you to saturate or desaturate the color. You just gotta play with them.

When you save, be sure to "save as" with a different name so your original photo is preserved and you can go back and edit it again if you don't like the way your edits turned out.

Good job on working with Photosmart. It's easy once you get the hang of it, but most people just don't have the patience. It's also great to use for your personal photos ... family, kids, sunsets, etc. I always edit my family photos to make them really sharp and clear and punch up the colors (saturation). It drives me crazy when people send or post photos online that are dreary and not cropped!

Getting really good photos of jewelry and other tiny things takes a bit of practice. The key is to have good lighting, a white backdrop, and hold you camera far enough away that it can get the item in focus. The item will be small in the original photo, but once you crop it in you can tell if you're doing it right ... LOL. Sometimes I forget to push the macro button on my camera and then I have to take all the photos over again!

not sure about this 'macro' button, i will have to look into that and see if my camera has it!
