Description

The listing, *EXTREMELY RARE* --$150-- 1792 Louis XVI 12-D coin, collectors DREAM! has ended.

PLEASE READ EVERYTHING!!
Here is a very special treat for the coin and history collectors of Listia. This coin sells for over $150 + when it is rarely on the market, as the 'W' mint mark on this coin is one of the most difficult to find. I had to do much debating before deciding to put it up on Listia, and I'm hoping that the credits will do this coin justice.

Here is a ballpark price to reference:

1792, Louis XVI. Bronze 12 Deniers Coin.

Mint year: 1792
Denomination: 12 Deniers
Mint Place: (W)
Diameter: 28mm
Material: Bronze
Weight: 12.4gm

Obverse: DuVivier bust of the ill-fated Louis XVI left, minmark (D) below.
Legend: LOUIS XVI ROI DES FRANCOIS.
Reverse: Fasces topped by cap of liberty, splitting value (12-D), all inside wreath.
Legend: LA NATION LA LOI LE ROI (heart) 1793.5.DE LA LIB*
Louis XVI (Versailles, 23 August 1754 – Paris, 21 January 1793) ruled as King of France and of Navarre from 1774 until 1792. Suspended and arrested during the Insurrection of 10 August, he was tried by the National Convention, found guilty of treason, and executed by guillotine on 21 January 1793. He was the only king of France to be executed.Although Louis was beloved at first, his indecisiveness and conservatism led some elements of the people of France to eventually view him as a symbol of the perceived tyranny of the Ancient Régime. The '1792' date mark itself is very difficult to see on this particular coin, but that was the date that was made in the 'W' mint mark time.

This is the guy all of us learned about in our history classes back in high school. This is a coin you don't want to miss out on!

Why would you put this on here, when you can sell it for $200 or something? I would buy it from you if you took it down

The link that you have provided is not even close to the coin that I have listed. The one in the link is of a 'Q' mint mark, which is much, much more common than the one here. This is what I mean when I say, 'Please read the WHOLE description' and, 'refer to the pictures'. If you are not a coin collector, 'mpantelis' then you should not incorrectly assume that I am lying. This is the first search result for this type of coin that shows up on google. Next time, do some more research. If ANYONE is going to, for whatever reason, decide to challenge my auctions, then do it with some evidence and some basic knowledge of coin collecting.

I just love the thought that you would want to share this with your fellow Listians. Thank you. I'm already a fan of yours and will be watching and trying to save credits for this. I collect a few coins of historical value to pass down to my family. Good luck to you and to whoever wins.

StarBaby: If your going to go on this auction and only leave negative comments, then Listia is not for you. I have already stepped out of my comfort zone by listing this auction, and for someone supposedly as respected as you to come along and say something like that is ridiculous. If you have a problem, then contact me personally. Do your research next time, I am a coin collector, and I know what I'm talking about. I'm 100% honest, and I know that I've done my research. Where do you get your info, ebay?? Jeeze, people these days...

NICE! I cannot bid on it but I am watching.
The sad person that made the hateful comment earlier seems to have a pattern of it, I blocked them a few months ago on my first auction for that very reason.
Anywho, I wish you the best of luck on this auction and I will be fanning you.

Hey,
Good question. No, it's just that the 'W' mint mark is one of the rarest and therefore makes it very expensive. There are about 18 different possible mint marks for these coins, and they are usually quite visible. For instance, the link leads to an auction with a coin almost identical to this one, with an 'M' mint mark. It sold at auction for about $250 :)

Very interesting coin. I am a coin collector for over 45 years and never saw one of these before. I really don't collect anything but U.S. coins, but I do have a few old foreign coin. I will be watching, but don't have enough credits to get in on the bidding.
Good luck, it should bring a good amount credits. fanned you

Thats really cool! Yes, these coins are quite hard to come across. As a matter of fact, i've only ever seen 1 'W' mint marked coin like this on the market before, and it was very expensive. But hey, Make sure you have second thouhts before putting something up with lots of sentimental value!
