You can use any nice pencil set. The inside cover has Artist Tips and Tricks including the basics of working with pencils, soft and hard edges, shading, highlighting and creating shadows, and blending. It takes a blending tool which looks similar to a pencil and you can get at any crafts store for $1-3. The pictures to color are stunning, Kaya, a Native American, her horse, in full costume, in daily clothes, with family, one on her spotted horse is breathtaking with no coloring, colored it is perfect for framing! All these pics are great opportunities to frame your child's work, even sit and color with them. Also 8 blank pages in back for free drawing or collage making, and they have a Native American style border for you to color in. Back inside cover has examples of completed pictures and the names of them including Kaya and Lone Dog, Modern Traditional Dancer, Fancy Dancer, Changes for Kaya and more. You can copy these or create your own color combinations. You can also cut these full color little pictures out and create a great wall hanging or use them as pictures in a doll house.
