Description

The listing, Legends Presents: A Circulated, Collector's "Silver Coloured" Canadian Dollar Coin has ended.

This auction is for a circulated "silver coloured" Canadian Dollar Coin, dated 1976. I,honestly, don't know what this coin is made of, but it looks like the old dollar coins of the 50s & 60s, with an image of 2 guys canoeing on the tail-side of the coin... it's much bigger than the Loonie of today & heavier (besides the fact that it's a different colour as well!)
DO NOT FLAG THIS AUCTION!!!! This is a highly collectible coin, no matter what. I've had to put that it is circulated, but in reality it may have handled by 5 people in total...admiring it, since this in NOT a coin you would spend!

Please realize that it's extremely difficult to take good pictures of coins... the last two pics are comparing this dollar coin to the present day Loonie!

Happy Bidding & remember, as always...

I wish I could learn the secret to taking good coin pics... I got soo fed up, I ended up getting my youngest daughter to take them! :( All mine kept turning out as was a big glare! :( Thanks for understanding & thanks for your support! :)

I am curious about this coin. Does it say .999 silver any where on it.Thanks
JFYI
I know pics are tough. but a inexpensive digital camera with a macro feature does well. Google Search works best if you can find a decent image of the exact coin you just Save As and use it. Google Canadian dollar and click on image tab at the top left. Walla no camera needed. Works for me.

Noo I looked everywhere on this coin for something that says .999 silver, but it does look like the silver coins that my mother use to collect! I've tried to research this coin & ironically, every document that I find literally skips this year for some reason! I do know that it's highly sought after by collectors... I had a guy offering me $100 yesterday for it, but I had to turn it down cuz I already listed it! I believe this coin is called a "voyaguer" coin (not sure if that's the correct spelling) due to the 2 guys conoeing... Sorry I can't be of more help... I'm still trying to find out more tho... :) Thanks for your interest! :)

What year is coin? If it is before 1968 it will be .800 fin silver. If it is 1968 or newer it is almost pure nickel. (Thought you would like to know)

Oh well, I knew that it couldn't be silver cuz of the date, but it looks EXACTLY like the Voyageur coins that my mom collected in the 50's & 60's... But besides that, this coin is hard to get your hands on as a Canadian, soo for a collector it would be even harder! I just thought that it would be cool to "share" one of these coins with my Listia friends! :)

Hi hun I don't have this on in my collection so I'm keeping a eye on it for now. and to some collectors it's not about the silver or gold content of a coin but the rareity of one. It's kinda like the 3 legged buff. nickel in the U.S.A. not much of anything but worth pleanty...

this is called a "voyager dollar" or "voyagers with canoe" and it is, unfortunately, 99.9% nickel.

yes it is VERY COOL, and I looked it up and 1 site says 2,100,000 were made and 1 says only 79,000 were made(numbers are approximate) so I am thinking total made were 2 million and maybe THAT YEAR only 79,000 made? dont know cuz sites were not "official" but either way I think they would be hard to come by!!

Yes, they are to come by! :) I was lucky cuz my mother is a "unofficial collector" of coins & had 4 "extra" ones that she chose to share with family! :)

Is there any way you could load some clearer pictures? Maybe not hold the camera so close to the coin??Once you get some clearer shots you might get some better bids on this

I ended up taking 50 pictures in total...these are the clearest, unfortunately! :( But if we were able to use "stock" pics I'd use one off of the net for any Voyageur coin cuz that's exactly what it looks like... 2 guys paddling a birch bark canoe! :) Thanks for your suggestion tho... :) Thanks for stopping by & showing some interst! :)

My mother gave it to me thankfully, as they are really hard to get your hands on... & I'm Canadian! lol

Ok, are you a person that buy your groceries at the convenience store? Check it out on eBay?! That's another site that SELLS coins, nor gives info on any! You can buy alot of fake/ replicas on eBay as well! These coins are hard to come by, but if you have a better source, maybe you can share! If you don't like it then don't bid, thanks for stopping by!
