The listing, Autobiography Convent Life & Abuse 1870's has ended.
Where do I start with a book, an autobiography, like this. Many know of the abuses in the Catholic church, but seeing them SO far back in time is quite an exclamation point of life. Edith O'Gorman, a young Irish girl decided on a life in a convent at a young age. This book starts with that decision and she recounts her life changes in the convent and after. The table of contents shown and also intro page give you an idea of the issues and abuse she suffered. She was born in 1842 and the book published in 1871, of course a first edition. It is called "The Trials and Persecutions of Edith O'Gorman of St Joseph's Convent". And it is what it says...personally I had to stop reading it part way in as I cannot stand abuse of anyone, never mind women. But- all said, the book is an antique, an autobiography , and a first edition..Her picture had been cut out of a piece of paper, an ad perhaps, or a photo and glued into the book as shown. It is OLD too! At 144 years of age the book has seen better days and has traveled and been read. Completely in tact, no pages missing except the free end papers front and back. Lots of yellowing with age and pages are fragile.
