The listing, Very Old Lyre (Not in Playing Condition) has ended.
This very old lyre has obviously seen better days! It's dusty, old, and cracked in a few places. Certainly, it's not in condition to play. My home was built in 1910. The instrument was in the attic for a good amount, if not ALL, of that time.
However, a crafty DIY'er could turn this old stringed instrument into a new home interior or use it as an architectural detail. Imagine cleaning and shining it up to put in a display case...or even painting it a high gloss metallic, and affixing it to a wall! A collector might even want to attempt to restore it.
There are so many possibilities. I hope that someone can envision them, and has the time and avocation that I don't.
The photos are a good representation of its condition. The second photo shows a crack that goes down the back, and picture seven shows another crack on the back of the fret. While those cracks are evident, there are no loose pieces.
The shipping method will be via USPS, and will be the most economical method for the auction winner. Extra care and caution in packing will be undertaken to ensure safe delivery.
I can attempt to answer questions, if any. However, I know nothing more about the provenance than I have already stated.
Good luck!
I hope that you will all visit my other auctions, as some of them have as little as one day left! Thanks. :)
