Yes, it is a real, genuine fox fur tail... I know, I love animals too. It's approximately 17 inches long (see last 2 pics). It could be used for many things; cosplay tail, cat toy, keychain, scarf, what ever your heart desires. :) Very soft & beautiful. Color is closest to 1st pic.

I 'm an animal lover, too. But if they are going to kill the animal at least they are honoring its life by using every piece. My neice is part canine ( I sweat she thinks she's a dog!) so this would be a nice addition to the coyote and wolf tail she already has! And yes, she does clip them to the back of her jeans and walk around that way!
